Regional Stroke Rounds

Tuesdays 0700 – 0800

Please join us for these dynamic case-based discussions where participants will be able to:

  • Discuss diagnosis and management of TIA and different stroke types.
  • Explain the indication and interpretation of common imaging modalities used to diagnose stroke (i.e. CT/MRI).
  • Discuss difficult TIA/stroke cases from diagnosis, prognosis or treatment standpoint.

Target Audience: Physicians interested in stroke care practicing at North East Designated Stroke Centres or Telestroke Sites including (but not limited to) Emergency, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, as well as as well as Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Physicians and Stroke Nurse.

NDT Challenges in Gait Course

Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024

Time: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Location: in-person at North Bay Regional Health Centre

Instructor: Tara Dingman, PT, C/NDT, NDTA™ Adult PT Instructor Candidate

Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Therapy/Rehab Assistants, Kinesiologists

Workshop objectives:

  • Identify components of typical gait.
  • Demonstrate basic skill in analyzing atypical components of trunk, upper and lower extremity function, frequently associated with conditions of neurological dysfunction, during activities in standing and during gait.
  • Demonstrate basic handling skills to enhance patient’s movement as related to his/her functional goals during standing and gait.

Cost: $100

Interprofessional workshop on best practices for managing perceptual impairments post-stroke

Dates and Times:

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2024: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Location: online with zoom

Instructor: Dr. Anita Menon, McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Target Audience: OTs; PTs; SLPs; nurses

Learning Objectives:

On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the prevalence of perceptual impairments post-stroke (especially unilateral spatial neglect) and its impact on functional outcomes
  2. Understand the latest best practice guidelines for managing perceptual impairments post-stroke (assessment/treatment) and the various roles of the interdisciplinary team
  3. Understand the clinical applicability and psychometric properties of screening/assessment tools to evaluate perceptual impairments
  4. Understand existing gaps in best practices versus actual practices in managing perceptual impairments post-stroke 
  5. Describe potential barriers and facilitators related to uptake of best practices for managing perceptual impairments (i.e. clinician and organizational characteristics)
